あれから8年……Mac Pro もついにデザイン変更か？
9 to 5 Mac より
2003年6月からその出で立ちを殆ど変えていない Mac Pro (当時は PowerMac G5) ですが、遂にそのデザインが変更される……かもしれないようです。
Prototype next-gen Mac Pro detailed: redesigned, rackable, stackable＠9 to 5 MacNearly eight years after the Mac Pro’s current design debuted, Apple is toying with a re-designed version of the product. The new design is said to be narrower at just over 5-inches and a few inches shorter at around 19-inches. One of the reasons that Apple might be making this particular Mac Pro prototype smaller is because it is able to fit on to a standard server rack.
全体的に一回りほどダウンサイズされているようで、高さは現行の 20.1 インチから約 19 インチに、幅は 8.1 インチから約 5 インチ、18.7 インチある奥行きは数インチ短くなる、とのこと。
サイズ的には 3U サイズのラックマウント機器に相当するので、ちょうど2003年2月から2008年2月まで販売されていた Xserve Raid (5.25" H x 17" W x 18.4" D) と同じくらいの感じのようです。

ライブ等でこういう重量機材を持ち歩く人には朗報……でもないか σ(^_^;) これを引っさげて電車に乗って会場入りするわけじゃないもんね（笑）
ラックマウントは良いとして、据え置きで使う時はどういう事になるのかな……。据え置き用に脚が別に付属してくるとか？（違うな…）
